Under supervision of the Customer Service Supervisor, this position assists in the support and coordination of the operations of the Customer Service Sections within the Building Division. Principal duties include, but are not limited to, processing building permit applications and issuing permits; provides information concerning building permit requirements, codes and inspection procedures to contractors, design professionals and the public; checks plans for completeness; calculate permit fees; and reviews and processes Certificates of Occupancy requests. This position may, with adequate training, assist with guidance on performance evaluations, provide insight to manage unique situations that may require good judgment and tact, the primary function of the position is to perform essential quality control and provide a support role in the Customer Service Sections within the Building Division to ensure the highest level of service and customer satisfaction.
Support customer service staff in the Building Division; makes recommendations for performance review, disciplinary actions, terminations and promotions; schedules trainings. Assist applicants in the processing of applications and verify contents for completeness and accuracy. Acts as lead in resolving permit or code compliance questions. Receive and process plans, assess and collect fees, log plans into permit tracking system and assign permit numbers. Maintain, update, and run weekly to monthly reports to internal staff and external agencies on a as needed basis. Participate in departmental meetings, help identify solutions to current problems and issues with internal affairs and software related concerns. Participate in software update meeting, including review and testing upgrades associated with the permitting/code compliance software and provide insight to procedural changes. Helps with day to day permitting and zoning applications, including coordination with the Planning and Development Services Division, and express permitting when required. Acts as a back-up person for all Customer Service Representatives and all functions of the roles within the Customer Service area. Assists and greets customers/visitors, answers questions, in person, electronically, and/or by telephone. Handles customer escalations face to face, written or over phone as needed. Also provides routine clerical, secretarial and administrative work, answering telephones and other office support and related duties as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED, supplemented by up to three (3) years previous relevant experience in a permitting issuing agency or related work environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
